plywood, 2x4, berber fabric, sisal rope, a staplegun and some killer glue...... voila cat tree....... .
generally you have to be careful about cat trees becaue they can be very unsturdy and if they wobble your cat won't use it..... I would guess you can find one that is sturdy for between 200 and 300, the ones I have seen taht are much less than that are not sturdy enough wtihout you adding additional support, it was one of the reasons we opted to build our own..... it was fairly easy to build for someone who is fairly handy..... keep in mind that while my hubby is an engineer he is not incredibly handy..... also even though he is an engineer, we kind of had a design idea in mind but we added and subtracted levels and platforms as we went..... like the lower platform was added later to increase the sturdiness......
this one cost probably 125 to build and I could have done it for less but I overbought fabric (I have alot left) and stuff like that.....
I have heard terrible things about the cat trees on ebay...... about them being wobbly and cheap so I wouldn't go there.....
good luck
I did have a link for some good ones I just have to remember where I saw them..... it was actually connected to a dog site.... but they were very expensive
