It's been just over a year for myself...and although I don't think about it much, there are times I'd just like to have one...just one, but I know from past times from quitting...it's that ONE that turns right back into smoking...so, I just remember that, and the urge/curiosity goes away. Because, lets face it...you can take whatever you want to quit smoking ciggarettes...but the most important thing is WANTING to quit!!!
So, like everything else, it takes a concious effort, I can only hope that after 2 years...that urge for one gets lost somewhere! ;-)

I'm right there with ya Metz...just don't let the ONE get ya!!!

When we were running the pubs, I just used to run downstairs and inhale deeply LOL

I want to stop but it's finding the right time to stop! at the minute I have too much going on.

Must admit I never smoke when I'm out with the dogs so theres a few hours a day that I don't have one.

I smoke more sat at the computer or watching TV.  I'm not at the puter so much as, the kids are forever chatting to their friends.  I just pop on now and again to check emails and have a quick scan around, only to have my seat hurled out from under me by an irrate teen that just has to speak to one of her friends, usually the one that she was speaking to on the phone not 2 seconds previously!! LOL

that is a headgame of the worst kind friend...there will never be a good time. i smoked from the time i was 15 and i quit again just this past august, hopefully for the last time  Huh? you just have to go through it and be stubborn and strong resisting the urge because the urge will never go away...it just lessens and gets further in between

hubby says that after almost 12 years or so that there are times he still; wants one. the urge is minor and easy to dismiss but never the less it`s still there.

I agree with what everyone said. I smoked for many years, but have been smoke free for several years now. (What do ya think Sav, maybe 5 years now?!)
First of all, make sure you are ready to quit. This is a life change that you are making, for the better! And you want it to be permanent!
There are various ways to quit. I used Zyban (Wellbutrin), as well as used hard candy and baby carrots, or other small food things to eat to satisfy the oral fixation. If you go with the Zyban, have them prescribe it as Wellbutrin (it's the same drug, only Wellbutrin is prescribed for depression, and when prescribed that way, is covered by insurance... if its prescribed for smoking cessation, it is not usually covered by insurance... go figure!)
I still have the urge to smoke every now and then, but you have to remember, you can NEVER pick up a cig again! EVER!!!!! You have to keep repeating in your head I AM A NON-SMOKER. That's what I kept telling myself and it stuck. Eventually you become one!
You can do it!

Yep, it's been at least 5 years, and I give you more credit then I give myself...even tho I didn't use anything to quit....you quit while I was still around smoking around you...I would never have been able to quit if the tables were turned. Kiss Your just stronger then me in your will I guess. Definately more STUBBORN then me thats for sure!

Well as a small step, try altering your habits.  So you say that you smoke watching tv and on the computer.  So make a new rule that there is no smoking in the house.  It will probably cut down on teh number of cigarrettes you have, as well, the cold weather helps with that one I would guess!  Once you have that down, you can make a new rule, like no smoking within so many feet of the house.  I dunno, maybe it wouldn't work, but just an idea!

As for the smoking, I am afraid I'm of no help-I've never smoked.  But I give you all the credit in the world for realizing that you need to quit.  You CAN do it Metz-let me know if you need me to cheer you on, I can do that. Smiley

WAY TO GO!!!!!  i am so proud of you!! lots of deep breaths and one hour at a time...hell minute at a time sometimes. it helps to break up your routine. if you're used to having a cigarette with coffee on the porch, take your coffee to the backyard instead. association change is great. think and speak of yourself as a non smoke not a quitterr, also another association mind game. the actual drug leaves your body in a short period ...like 3 days or something...the rest is habit and mind games and repetition. sweat it out friend, i know you can do this and if you need me just write...i'll support you in whatever way you need...as much as possible anyway  Roll Eyes
